With New Leadership, VT Group's Unmanned Systems Division Makes Portland Its New Home

03 March 2011

GAITHERSBURG, Md.- With the recent addition of Daniel Bertram as president of VT Group's Unmanned Systems line of business, the division is relocating from McMinnville, Ore., to Portland. The new, expandable 7,540 square foot facility, located in the PacTrust Business Center, will be the hub for VT Group's activities in the rapidly-growing unmanned system market.

"As our presence in the unmanned systems industry continues to grow, we needed the right facility in a location that allowed us to better support our customers," said Bertram. "Portland is the perfect location as it provides great accessibility for our employees, to our customers, and gives us the ability to tap a well-educated talent pool to abet our growth."

Bertram joined VT Group January 2011 with more than 25 years management experience, including 14 years of successful executive leadership in aviation, unmanned vehicles, and defense systems as a supplier/partner to domestic prime contractors such as Boeing, Raytheon, Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin as well as international organizations. Most recently, Bertram was president/CEO of Coda Octopus Americas based in Salt Lake City, and previously president/CEO of DataMetrics Corporation in Orlando, Fla., both tier two defense contractors.

In September 2010, VT Group acquired this line of business from Evergreen International Aviation Inc., located in McMinnville. Formerly known as Evergreen Unmanned Systems, the firm was a leading provider of support for Unmanned Systems with a proven performance record on multiple platforms including ScanEagle® and Maveric.

VT's Unmanned Systems is a "platform agnostic" full-spectrum provider of services to the industry, including: program management, training, logistics, test and evaluation, operations, mission analysis and maintenance. In addition VT owns, operates and provides as fee-for-service more than a dozen drones (UAVs) varying in size and configuration optimized to support vital military and commercial interests in the U.S. and abroad.
